Discourse Community Publishing is on the frontlines of journalism innovation in Canada. Our goal is to reimagine journalism from the ground up: how it is produced and delivered, how it is funded and, most importantly, how it can serve communities.
Launched in 2022, Discourse Community Publishing's growing journalism network includes The Discourse Cowichan, The Discourse Nanaimo, IndigiNews, Sun Peaks Independent News, The Wren and the Revelstoke Mountaineer. We are active members of Press Forward, Canada’s association for independent media.
It is important to all of our team members who are uninvited guests that we pay respect to the Indigenous Peoples, and their homelands, whose Creation stories are older than we. In accordance with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action directed at the media, the Discourse Community Publishing is committed to tell stories that reflect and respect the rights and knowledge of Indigenous Peoples. We recognize the power we have as storytellers and our collective responsibility to decolonize local journalism. This work is ongoing.
Publisher Brandi Schier will become CEO of Discourse Community Publishing, bringing together The Discourse, IndigiNews and Sun Peaks Independent News under one umbrella and positioning the company to serve other B.C. communities in 2022
The team at The Discourse is celebrating six wins at the Canadian Online Publishing Awards, more than any other publisher. We’re so happy that our small team’s commitment to community service journalism is being recognized in this way.
